Starting Lean/an Agile Enterprise

By Russ Lewis. Published online May 5, 2014

I gave this talk Starting Lean - Running an Agile Enterprise to a group of founders of mostly small businesses. You can view and download the slides from the link.

The talk is based on Ash Maurya's book, called Running Lean, a firm favourite because it's so practical.

Think of this as Lean Startup applied to an existing business, which is exactly what Eric Ries himself did.

Eric wrote about that experience in his sequel The Startup Way which explores 'intraprenuership'.

    Transformation research update

'Managing Tensions not People' as transformation method research update at the end of 2023 This time last year I was searching through the ambidexterity literature for tensions other than the usual explore-exploit. I built a website to publish my progress online, which I think was a diversion! Literature research update I found more than 70 […]

In praise of rights licensing bots

I was at the digital transformation summit in Berlin last week when I got a scary "unlicensed use" email from a rights licensing lawyer. Ways of Working: 5 improvements for leaders

Agile transformation takes years, but changing management’s focus from people to tensions could be a better solution. It is simpler, faster, and considerably more cost-effective. Management is the […]

    How Agile Defeated Goliath

Malcolm Gladwell tells the story of David and Goliath as an unfair contest with odds stacked against the giant. Shepherd David with his simple but precise sling shot isn’t the bravest of King Saul’s men but the one who recognises the deadly disadvantage of an unwieldy, heavily armour-clad, sword-bearing infantryman in one-on-one combat. Gladwell is […]

Too much Agile Guidance for C-Suite

One key action: Agile Guidance for C-Suite leadership If my job title was a three-letter acronym and the first letter was a “C”, I might be un-festively fed-up with people telling me how to run my agile digital transformation. Two more ‘top ten something-or other things CEOs and CIOs should worry about’ appeared last week, […]
